Introduction

Human Resource Management (HRM) has become one of the pivotal management functions in today’s business organizations. It is accepted that the success of a business organization depends on the effective and efficient utilization of Human Resources of an organization. Human Resource Management involves both strategic and comprehensive approaches to managing people, as well as workplace culture and environment. The Diploma in Human Resource Management is a comprehensive program specially designed to give candidates a solid, general foundation in Human Resource Management. Students who successfully complete the program will be awarded with the Faculty of Management & Finance, University of Ruhuna, and Diploma in Human Resource Management and can use the designator letters DHRM (Ruhuna).

The prime objective of the Diploma in Human Resource Management program is to prepare candidates with the broad knowledge on theory, practice and methodology in Human Resource Management required to enable them to work/ deal with people effectively and efficiently in an organization or move on to further study.

As such, upon successful completion of the Diploma, the participants will be able to;

  • Demonstrate the understanding of theory, practice, relevant methodology and recent developments in Human Resource Management,
  • Apply the concepts theories and principles in the area of study and suggest solutions to problems in an employment context,
  • To communicate successfully, the results to specialist and non-specialist audiences and exercise personal responsibilities and leadership in some tasks in the workplace,
  • Display qualities and transferable skills as well as subject specific skills necessary for employment, carry out further training and manage their own learning.
