Overview

  • The Post Graduate faculty situated in the same premises of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura provides an ideal environment for intellectual activities particularly in interdisciplinary areas. Its strategic location at close proximity to both Colombo and Sri Jayewardenepura facilitates obtaining the services of the experts from both the government and the private sector institutions amicably to enrich its programmes while obtaining services from academic staff members with postgraduate qualifications from some of the best universities in the world.

  • The academic programmes of the FGS are conducted by Academic Departments through 07 Boards of Study and these programmes are conducted in close collaboration with Faculties of Applied Science, Social Science and Humanities, Medical Sciences, Management Science and Commerce. Two new Boards of Studies on Engineering and Technology are hoped to be formulated in the near future.

  • The Postgraduate teaching and research is coordinated by six Boards of Studies ie. Humanities, Life Sciences, Management and Commerce, Medical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Social Sciences each of which functions under the chairmanship of a person of professorial rank or a senior academic which for operational purposes has an administrative unit under a Deputy Registrar and a finance unit under a Senior Assistant Bursar.

  • The quality of the postgraduate programmes has been maintained at a high standard in order to attract a large number of postgraduate students locally, from the SAARC Region and other countries in the world. During the past 19 years spanning from 1996 to 2015, the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS)  has awarded 121 Ph.D degrees, 160 M Phil degrees, 101 MA degrees, 1100 MSc degrees, 281 Master of Business Administration and 1421 Postgraduate Diplomas while maintaining a significant increase of student admissions.
